Faulty gas heaters can leak carbon monoxide, an odourless gas that's genuinely dangerous. A cracked heat exchanger may show no obvious signs, which is why we carbon monoxide test on every service. Energy Safe Victoria recommends having gas heaters tested at least every two years. If your heater hasn't been checked recently, book a safety check.
A good service or repair keeps most heaters going for years. But if your unit is past 12 to 15 years, needs repairs every season, or parts are getting scarce, replacing it can be the smarter spend, both on running costs and reliability.

The fan runs but the air is cold or barely warm. Usually ignition, gas valve or burner related, and it is the most common winter call we get.

On for a few minutes, then off, over and over. Often a blocked filter, restricted return air or a failing overheat sensor.
Stop using it and call us straight away. A gas smell, or scorching and soot around the unit, needs a licensed technician before it runs again.
Blank screen, frozen display, or the buttons do nothing. Sometimes a power or wiring fault, sometimes the controller itself has failed.
New noises usually mean worn fan bearings, a loose duct connection or something that has come adrift. Worth looking at before it turns into a breakdown.
