More than an inspection
A proper evaporative service, not just a quick check
A lot of "services" are a look, a hose over the pads and a tick on a form. Ours is a physical clean of the cooler followed by the checks that decide whether it will actually cool your house in January.
A deep foaming clean, not a hose-down
Most services stop at spraying the pads. We apply a foaming cleaning solution to the pads and the relevant internal areas of the cooler, work it through, and rinse it out. That is what lifts the dirt and debris that a quick rinse leaves behind.
The water system is checked, not glanced at
Pump, float valve, drain valve, solenoid, water lines and bleed rate. These are the parts that fail in January, and they are checked and adjusted while the unit is open.
Airflow and operation are tested
Fan modes and speeds, accessible ducting, airflow at the outlets and water distribution across every pad, finished with a full function test so the cooler leaves our hands running the way it should.
Filtrex treatment included
A Filtrex cleaning treatment is applied as part of the service process once the pads and tank are clean.

Plain answers
Why an evaporative cooler needs a proper service
Dirt and debris build up over a year
A cooler sits on the roof through autumn and winter collecting dust, leaves and grit in the pads, the tank and the frame. That build-up blocks airflow and stops the pads wetting evenly, which is why a cooler that ran well last summer can feel weak this year.
Pads have a working life
Cooling pads wear, clog with minerals and go hard. We check their condition properly and tell you honestly whether they will do another summer or whether a new set is the better money.
The water system is where most faults start
Pumps that stop lifting water, float valves that stick, drain valves that leak and bleed rates that were never set. Each one shows up as a cooler that runs but does not cool, or a roof that stays wet.
Airflow is the whole point
Fan speeds, ducting condition and outlet airflow decide how much cool air reaches the rooms. We test it rather than assume it.
Smells at start-up
A musty smell on the first hot day is usually stale water and a build-up on the pads after months of sitting. A proper clean of the tank and pads deals with the cause rather than masking it.
Ready before the heat, not during it
The first hot week is when every cooler in the district gets switched on and the breakdown calls start. A spring service picks up the obvious problems while there is still time to fix them without a wait.
Local knowledge
Evaporative cooling in Kyneton
Kyneton is a heating town first, but its summer days are dry and an evaporative cooler is a very good way to cool a Kyneton house, whether it is a weatherboard cottage near Piper Street or a newer home on the edge of town. The trouble is the rest of the year. A cooler is a wet appliance that lives on a roof, and through a Kyneton winter the water goes stale, the frosts perish the rubber parts, minerals set on the pads and dust settles in the tank. Left alone for a few seasons the cooler starts to smell, cools a little less each year and fails on the first hot afternoon.
An annual spring service resets all of that. Our technicians are our own employees, factory trained on Brivis and experienced with Braemar, Bonaire, Coolair and Breezair.
What the service covers
The checklist is the same on every cooler we touch, because the faults are the same wherever the roof is: the tank is drained and cleaned, the pads are inspected for scale and blockage and cleaned or quoted, the pump is tested under load, the float and dump valves are checked so the unit fills and empties properly, the water distributor is checked for even coverage, the fan and motor are tested, the controller is checked and the unit is run through every mode with the airflow measured at the outlets. What changes in Kyneton is what we find: more perished floats and seals, more scale, more stale-water smells and more pads gone hard, all of it the mark of a long, cold off-season. You get the price before we start and a written note of anything that will need attention. Booking through the website brings the website booking price; the main evaporative service page has the details.
Repairs and diagnostics
If the cooler has already stopped, or runs without cooling, tell us the symptom when you book and the technician arrives with the likely parts. The Kyneton repairs we do most are floats and dump valves that have perished over winter, pumps that have stopped lifting water, controllers that will not respond and pad sets that have gone hard with scale. Water coming through a ceiling is treated as urgent. Our guide on a cooler that runs but does not cool covers what you can check yourself first, and how to use evaporative cooling explains the window-open habit that catches out households new to the system.
When it is a sizing problem, not a fault
A cooler on a high-ceilinged Kyneton period home that never quite keeps up may be perfectly healthy and simply too small for the air volume it is asked to cool. We can service it, but we cannot service it into a bigger unit, and we would rather tell you that than keep sending a technician. The Kyneton evaporative cooler replacement page explains how a replacement is sized for a period home and what a changeover involves.
Heater and cooler together
Many Kyneton households book the gas ducted heater service and carbon monoxide check with the cooler clean in the one visit, before winter for the heater and before summer for the cooler, or both together if that suits.
Eight frosty months on the roof
Kyneton has one of the shortest cooling seasons we work in and one of the coldest, frostiest winters. A cooler here might run for three months and then sit through frost after frost. The faults that produces are predictable: perished float valves and seals, stale water left in the tank, pads dried hard and a musty smell at the first start-up in November. A spring service catches all of it before the cooler is needed.
Period homes and high ceilings
Kyneton's weatherboard cottages and period homes have high ceilings and more air volume than a modern home of the same floor area. When a cooler on one of these houses never quite keeps up on a hot afternoon, it is often undersized rather than faulty. We tell you that plainly rather than keep charging for service visits that cannot fix a sizing problem, and the Kyneton changeover page explains what a correctly sized replacement looks like.
Dry summer days that suit evaporative cooling
Kyneton's summer days are warm and mostly dry, which is exactly what evaporative cooling is built for. A properly serviced cooler cools a Kyneton house on a 35 degree day cheaply and well; it is the humid days, rare here, when it will feel less effective, and that is the system rather than a fault.
Hard water and mineral build-up
Mineral deposits on the pads and the water distributor are common on Kyneton coolers, and a pad that has gone hard with scale passes air without cooling it. Cleaning the distributor and checking coverage across every pad is part of every service; where the pads are past cleaning we quote a set before fitting it.
Kyneton and the towns around it. We regularly service Kyneton, Malmsbury, Tylden and Carlsruhe, so a spring service is an easy booking and a breakdown in a heatwave is not a long wait.

What happens next
Evaporative cooling in Kyneton: your questions
What does the Kyneton service include?
Tank drained and cleaned, pads inspected and cleaned or quoted for replacement, pump and float and dump valve tested, water distribution checked across every pad, fan and motor tested under load, controller and electrical connections checked, and a full run through every mode with the airflow checked at the outlets. Anything that will need attention goes in a written note. The website booking price applies when you book online.
My cooler smells at start-up. Do I need a repair?
After a Kyneton winter that smell is almost always stale water in the tank or a build-up on the pads, not a fault. The service cleans the tank and pads and checks that the dump valve is actually emptying the unit between uses. If the smell returns after a service, the pads are generally due for replacement.
When is the right time to book in Kyneton?
October. Kyneton's heat arrives later than Sunbury's, but when it comes every cooler in the district is switched on in the same week and the breakdown calls start. Coolers serviced in spring are the ones that run through summer without a call-out.
Is it worth repairing an old Kyneton cooler?
Often yes. A pump, pad set or motor on a sound cabinet is good money. Brittle cabinets, leaking tanks and obsolete control boards are not, and those are common on units that have sat through fifteen or twenty Kyneton winters. We tell you which it is before you commit to anything, and the Kyneton changeover page covers the replacement side.
Do you cover Malmsbury and the villages?
Yes. Malmsbury, Tylden, Carlsruhe and Taradale are on the same Kyneton run at the same price.
