A gas heater service is a safety check first
A gas ducted heater burns gas inside a heat exchanger and blows air across the outside of it into your home. The two must never mix. Over years of heating and cooling the heat exchanger can crack, flues can corrode or shift, and burners can drift out of adjustment. None of that is visible from the lounge room. That is why a gas ducted heating service is more than a filter clean: it is a licensed technician inspecting the heat exchanger and checking for carbon monoxide spillage, and then cleaning and tuning the heater so it runs efficiently.
We service gas ducted heaters across the Macedon Ranges, from Sunbury and Gisborne through Macedon and Woodend to Kyneton, Romsey and Lancefield, with our own licensed technicians. No subcontractors.
What we check
- Heat exchanger. Inspected for cracks, corrosion and distortion.
- Carbon monoxide safety checks. Spillage testing with the heater running where the installation allows it, so combustion gases are not entering the air the heater delivers.
- Burner, ignition and gas pressure. Cleaned, checked and adjusted to the manufacturer’s specification.
- Flue. Checked for condition, joints and clearances.
- Fan and motor. Cleaned, checked for bearing wear and tested under load.
- Filter and return air. Cleaned or replaced; return air grille and duct checked for restriction.
- Thermostat and controller. Tested, and fault history read on controllers that store it.
- Electrical connections. Checked and tightened.
- Ductwork and outlets. Visual check in the roof space where accessible, with any crushed, disconnected or uninsulated duct noted.
- Run and report. Full heating cycle, airflow checked at outlets, and a written summary with anything that needs attention.
If a service turns up a fault we quote the repair before doing it. If it turns up a cracked heat exchanger on an older heater, we talk to you about replacement options rather than patching a heater that should be retired.

We service all major gas ducted heating brands: Brivis, Rinnai, Braemar, Bonaire and others still running in Ranges homes. For Brivis and Rinnai we are factory-trained dealers who purchase directly from the manufacturers, which helps when a part is needed.
When to book
March, April and early May, before the first cold snap. A heater that has been serviced before winter is the one that does not need an emergency call in June, when every heating company in Victoria is booked out. If your heater is already faulty, go to gas ducted heating repairs and tell us the symptom or the code on the controller.

The burner and its flame, the heat exchanger for cracks and corrosion, the fan and motor, the filters, the gas pressure at the valve, the ignition and flame sensing, and the safety devices that shut the heater down if something is wrong. Questions we get asked
What does a gas ducted heating service include?
Heat exchanger inspection, carbon monoxide safety checks, burner and pilot or ignition check, gas pressure check, flue check, fan and motor check, filter clean or replacement, thermostat and controller test, electrical connection check, a full run through the heating cycle and a written report. Any parts needed are quoted before we fit them.
How often should I service my gas ducted heater?
Energy Safe Victoria recommends having gas heaters serviced at least every two years. Older heaters, or heaters that run hard through a Ranges winter, benefit from an annual check.
Why is the carbon monoxide test important?
A cracked heat exchanger or a faulty flue can let combustion gases, including carbon monoxide, into the air the heater blows through the house. The spillage test checks for that. It is the safety reason a gas heater service should be done by a licensed technician rather than a general handyman.
Can you service the evaporative cooler at the same visit?
Yes. Booking both together saves a call-out and means both systems are ready for their season.
My heater is working fine. Do I still need a service?
Yes. Heat exchanger damage and flue problems do not announce themselves, and a heater that seems fine can be spilling combustion gases. The service is as much a safety check as a tune-up.
