Evaporative Cooling Repairs Across the Macedon Ranges

Evaporative cooler faults we repair

Evaporative coolers have a small number of parts that do nearly all the work, and most breakdowns come back to one of them. We repair all major brands across the Macedon Ranges and see the same faults every summer:

• Pump failure. The cooler runs, the fan blows, the air is warm and the pads are dry. Pumps are the most common failure and are usually a straightforward replacement.
• Float valve and water supply faults. The tank overfills or runs dry, water drips from the unit, or the cooler cycles on and off. The float, the solenoid or the supply line is the usual culprit.
• Blocked or collapsed pads. Mineral build-up, dust and time reduce airflow and cooling. Pads are cleaned or replaced depending on their condition.
• Drain and dump valve faults. Stale, smelly water and a slimy tank point to a drain valve that is no longer emptying the unit between uses.
• Fan motor and bearing problems. Rattles, squeals, a fan that starts slowly or a motor that trips the power. We test the motor before condemning it.
• Control board and controller faults. No display, a controller that will not respond, fault codes on Brivis, Braemar or Bonaire wall controllers, or a unit that only runs on one speed.
• Water leaks into the ceiling. A cracked tank, a split distributor line or an overflowing unit. We treat these as urgent.
• Winterisation problems. A unit that was never drained or covered at the end of the season, so the tank froze or the pads degraded.

What a repair visit looks like

We ask for the symptom when you book, and the brand and approximate age if you know them, so the technician arrives with the likely parts. On site we diagnose the fault, tell you what it is and what it will cost, and only proceed when you have agreed the price. If the repair reveals something bigger, such as a cabinet that has gone brittle or a control board that is no longer available, we stop and talk to you about replacement rather than sinking money into a unit at the end of its life.

Every repair is done by one of our own technicians. We do not subcontract repairs, so the person on your roof is accountable to us and to you.

Brands

We repair Brivis, Braemar, Bonaire, Coolair and Breezair evaporative coolers, along with older units where parts are still available. Brivis units are our speciality; we are factory-trained dealers for Brivis and purchase directly from the manufacturer.

Before you call: two quick checks

If the cooler is not running at all, check the switchboard for a tripped circuit and check that the isolator near the unit or in the roof has not been switched off. If the cooler is running but not cooling, check whether the water supply tap to the unit has been turned off over winter. If either of those fixes it, you have saved a call-out. If not, book a repair and tell us what you have found.

After the repair

A repaired cooler that has not had a service for a few years is worth servicing at the same visit. It costs less to do both together, and it means the rest of the unit gets checked while a technician is already on the roof.
