Gas ducted heater faults we repair

We repair gas ducted heaters across the Macedon Ranges, from Sunbury and Gisborne through Macedon and Woodend to Kyneton, Romsey and Lancefield, with our own licensed technicians. The faults we see most through a Ranges winter:

• No heat, no start. Ignition faults, failed igniters or flame sensors, gas valve faults, a tripped safety lockout or a control board problem. Also, occasionally, a gas supply issue rather than a heater fault.
• Fault codes. Brivis, Rinnai, Braemar and Bonaire controllers all report codes. Some are simple, such as a filter reminder; others indicate a lockout after repeated ignition failures or an overheat. Our error code guides explain the common ones.
• Blowing cold air. The fan runs but the burner is not lighting or is cutting out; often a flame sensing or gas supply problem, sometimes a heat exchanger overheat cut-out caused by poor airflow.
• Short cycling. Heater starts, stops, starts again. Usually airflow (filter, return air, fan) or a sensor.
• Noise. Rattles, squeals, banging on start-up. Fan bearings, loose panels, duct movement or delayed ignition, which needs attention promptly.
• Tripping the power. A failing fan motor, a wet or damaged control board, or a wiring fault.
• Uneven heating. Some rooms warm, others cold. Often ductwork rather than the heater: disconnected or crushed ducts, missing insulation or an undersized return. We look in the roof, not just at the heater.
• Gas smell. Treated as an emergency. Make the area safe and call your gas distributor first.

How a repair visit runs

Tell us the symptom, the brand and any code on the controller when you book. The technician arrives with the likely parts, diagnoses the fault, and tells you the price before doing the repair. If the diagnosis turns up a cracked heat exchanger or a heater that needs several major parts, we stop and talk about replacement options rather than spend your money on a heater that should be retired.

Every repair is done by our own licensed technicians. We do not send subcontractors, and the person who diagnoses the fault is the person who fixes it.

We repair Brivis, Rinnai, Braemar and Bonaire gas ducted heaters, and other brands where parts are still available. For Brivis and Rinnai we are factory-trained dealers who purchase directly from the manufacturers.

Before you call

Check the switchboard for a tripped circuit, check the isolator at the heater has not been switched off, and check the filter; a badly blocked filter will shut some heaters down. If the controller shows a code, note it down. If none of that helps, book a repair.

After a repair

If the heater has not been serviced for a couple of years, a service at the same visit checks the heat exchanger and flue and includes carbon monoxide safety checks while a technician is already there.
