Diggers Rest

Air Conditioning in Diggers Rest: Ducted Reverse Cycle and Split System Installation

Diggers Rest gets Sunbury's summer, and its newer estates have the compact blocks and shallow roof spaces of any modern development, which shapes what can be installed and how. This page covers whole-home ducted reverse cycle and split systems for single rooms, both designed by our own team from the depot a few minutes up the road.

  • Ducted reverse cycle and split systems, sized for 38 degree afternoons and frosty mornings
  • ActronAir and Rinnai from factory-trained dealers; Mitsubishi Electric with substantial hands-on experience
  • Estate roof spaces measured at the assessment, not discovered on installation day
  • 9 year labour and workmanship warranty on every installation

Air conditioning for a growing town

Diggers Rest homes want cooling first. The summer is hot and dry, the newer estates have little shade, and a system is judged on whether the bedrooms are comfortable at nine o’clock on a hot evening. A ducted reverse cycle system heats and cools the whole house from one controller with zones for the rooms in use; a split system does the same for a single room. Either way the result depends on the design: the load calculated for the house as it is, the ductwork sized and insulated for a hot roof, the return air sized properly, the zones laid out for how the household lives and the outdoor unit placed with the neighbours in mind. The installation page sets out how every ducted job runs.

Whole-home ducted

For family homes in the estates and the township, a ducted system is the whole-home answer. We calculate the cooling load for a 38 degree afternoon and the heating load for a frosty morning, select the equipment on both, and design the ductwork for the roof that is there, which in an estate home often means a low-profile indoor unit and a carefully planned duct layout. Double storey homes are zoned upstairs and downstairs separately as a minimum. ActronAir is our premium recommendation for whole-home comfort, because its variable-capacity inverter and zoning cool the rooms in use without running the whole house at full output through a long summer. The Sunbury ducted page goes into the design detail, and every word of it applies a few minutes down the road.

Split and multi-head systems

A high-wall split system is the right answer for a west-facing bedroom, a home office or a garage conversion. We size on the room, position the indoor unit so the airflow does not blow across the bed, and place the outdoor unit for airflow, noise and service access on a compact block. Where two or three rooms need conditioning and ductwork does not suit the roof, a multi-head system runs them from one outdoor unit; Rinnai is a primary multi-head brand for us. Our multi-head versus ducted comparison sets out the trade-offs. The Sunbury split systems page covers installation, service and repair in more depth.

The brands

We install ActronAir and Rinnai systems, for which we are factory-trained dealers buying direct from the manufacturers, and Mitsubishi Electric systems, which we have substantial hands-on experience installing and servicing. We recommend one system for your house rather than list three, and we service and repair air conditioning of every major brand across Diggers Rest.

Replacing gas heating

If the system replaces a gas ducted heater, the Victorian Energy Upgrades program may apply. The Diggers Rest VEU gas to electric page explains the conversion, and the Diggers Rest evaporative cooling page covers the cooler that often comes down at the same time.

Local knowledge

What we see in Diggers Rest

Hot summers on the plains

Diggers Rest sits on the same plains as Sunbury and gets the same hot, dry summer days, so the cooling load is calculated for a 38 degree afternoon on a west-facing estate home and the duct insulation is specified for a roof space that can be over 50 degrees. Winter capacity for the frosty mornings follows from a system sized that way.

Estate roof spaces

The newer estates such as Bloomdale have shallow roof spaces and compact blocks. That affects the indoor unit position, the duct layout, the return air and where the outdoor unit can sit without bothering a neighbour. We measure at the assessment and design a layout for the roof that is there, sometimes with a low-profile indoor unit.

Township homes

The older township streets around the station have larger blocks, older construction and often a gas heater and evaporative cooler being replaced together, which brings the VEU program into the conversation. Those homes are conventional ducted jobs with new ductwork.

Splits for the rooms that need them

A single split system suits a lot of Diggers Rest rooms: a west-facing main bedroom in an estate home, a home office, a garage conversion. We size on the room and position the indoor and outdoor units for comfort, noise and service access rather than convenience.

Our own team, close to home

Diggers Rest is part of our home service area, so the assessment, the installation and the follow-up are done by the same in-house team. Bulla and Toolern Vale are covered too.

Why our installations perform

The MRGA Standard

What a properly designed and installed system includes, and what our quote is built around.

  • Sized for your home, not a rule of thumb

We size heating and cooling from the home: floor area, ceiling heights, insulation, glazing, orientation and how the rooms are used. An oversized unit short-cycles and an undersized one runs flat out on the coldest and hottest days, which is exactly when you need it.

  • New, correctly insulated ductwork on every ducted reverse cycle installation

Ducted systems live or die by the ducts. A new ducted reverse cycle installation gets new ductwork, sized for the system's airflow, insulated to the current standard, sealed at every joint and supported so it does not sag or kink in the roof. We do not reuse old gas-heating ductwork for a new ducted reverse cycle system. When a gas ducted heater is replaced like for like, the existing ducts can stay where we have inspected them and they are suitable.

  • Return air and outlets placed for even comfort

Outlet positions, return-air size and location decide whether the back bedrooms are as comfortable as the living room. We design outlet placement and return air for the floor plan and confirm it with you before installation day.

  • Zoning and sensors where they help

Zoning lets you heat or cool the rooms you are using. Where a system is zoned we set the zones around how the home is lived in, and place temperature sensors where they read the room rather than a hallway or a draught.

Factory-trained dealers

Trained by the manufacturers, buying direct

We are factory-trained dealers for ActronAir, Brivis and Rinnai and purchase equipment directly from these manufacturers.

We also install, service and repair all major heating and cooling brands, including Mitsubishi Electric.

Accountability

9Year Labour & Workmanship Warranty

It applies to the installation work our own team does. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, repairs and servicing carry their own workmanship warranty, and pre-existing or reused components are not covered by the nine years.

Air conditioning in Diggers Rest: your questions

Ducted or split systems for an estate home in Diggers Rest?

A whole-home ducted system suits most family homes, including double storey ones with upstairs and downstairs zoned separately. Where the roof space is too tight for ductwork, or only one or two rooms need conditioning, a split system or a multi-head system is the better answer. We assess the house and recommend one approach.

Will it cope with a 38 degree day?

Yes, when it is sized for it. The cooling load is calculated for the house as it is, including orientation, glazing and the roof space, and the system is selected to hold the set temperature on the hottest afternoon rather than fall behind.

Which brands do you install?

ActronAir and Rinnai ducted, split and multi-head systems, for which we are factory-trained dealers buying direct from the manufacturers, and Mitsubishi Electric systems, which we have substantial hands-on experience installing and servicing. For whole-home comfort ActronAir is our premium recommendation.

I am replacing a gas heater. Does the incentive apply?

If a ducted system replaces a gas ducted heater, the Victorian Energy Upgrades program may apply. The Diggers Rest VEU page explains the conversion and how eligibility is confirmed for your home.

Do you service and repair air conditioning in Diggers Rest?

Yes, ducted and split systems of all major brands, by our own technicians.
