More than an inspection
A proper evaporative service, not just a quick check
A lot of "services" are a look, a hose over the pads and a tick on a form. Ours is a physical clean of the cooler followed by the checks that decide whether it will actually cool your house in January.
A deep foaming clean, not a hose-down
Most services stop at spraying the pads. We apply a foaming cleaning solution to the pads and the relevant internal areas of the cooler, work it through, and rinse it out. That is what lifts the dirt and debris that a quick rinse leaves behind.
The water system is checked, not glanced at
Pump, float valve, drain valve, solenoid, water lines and bleed rate. These are the parts that fail in January, and they are checked and adjusted while the unit is open.
Airflow and operation are tested
Fan modes and speeds, accessible ducting, airflow at the outlets and water distribution across every pad, finished with a full function test so the cooler leaves our hands running the way it should.
Filtrex treatment included
A Filtrex cleaning treatment is applied as part of the service process once the pads and tank are clean.

Plain answers
Why an evaporative cooler needs a proper service
Dirt and debris build up over a year
A cooler sits on the roof through autumn and winter collecting dust, leaves and grit in the pads, the tank and the frame. That build-up blocks airflow and stops the pads wetting evenly, which is why a cooler that ran well last summer can feel weak this year.
Pads have a working life
Cooling pads wear, clog with minerals and go hard. We check their condition properly and tell you honestly whether they will do another summer or whether a new set is the better money.
The water system is where most faults start
Pumps that stop lifting water, float valves that stick, drain valves that leak and bleed rates that were never set. Each one shows up as a cooler that runs but does not cool, or a roof that stays wet.
Airflow is the whole point
Fan speeds, ducting condition and outlet airflow decide how much cool air reaches the rooms. We test it rather than assume it.
Smells at start-up
A musty smell on the first hot day is usually stale water and a build-up on the pads after months of sitting. A proper clean of the tank and pads deals with the cause rather than masking it.
Ready before the heat, not during it
The first hot week is when every cooler in the district gets switched on and the breakdown calls start. A spring service picks up the obvious problems while there is still time to fix them without a wait.
Local knowledge
Evaporative cooling in Lancefield and Romsey
Lancefield’s summer days are warm and dry, which is what an evaporative cooler is built for, and a serviced, correctly sized unit cools a Lancefield house cheaply and well. The country around the town is what makes the work different. Coolers here take more dust and wind than coolers in a sheltered Ranges town, they sit through hard frosts, and many of them are on period homes with high ceilings or on farm properties where the cooler serves a house at the end of a long drive. Our technicians are our own employees, factory trained on Brivis and experienced with Braemar, Bonaire, Coolair and Breezair, and Lancefield and Romsey are on our regular run.
The spring service
The service follows the same checklist as every cooler we touch: tank cleaned, pads inspected and cleaned or quoted, pump tested under load, float and dump valves checked, water distribution checked across every pad, fan and motor tested, controller checked, full run in every mode with the airflow measured at the outlets. In Lancefield the tank clean and the distributor check are where the time goes, because dust and scale are what stop these coolers cooling. The price is agreed before we start and parts are quoted before they are fitted. Book through the website and the website booking price on the main evaporative service page applies.
Repairs
Tell us the symptom when you book and the technician comes with the likely parts. The Lancefield and Romsey repairs we do most are pumps blocked or worn by dust, pads that have scaled hard, floats and dump valves perished over winter and controllers that will not respond. Water through a ceiling is urgent; turn the cooler’s water supply off if you can reach it and call. Our guide on a cooler that runs but does not cool covers what you can check first.
Replacement
We fix coolers that are worth fixing and say so when they are not. A brittle cabinet, a leaking tank or an obsolete control board means a changeover is the better money. The replacement is sized for the house, which for a high-ceilinged Lancefield period home usually means a larger unit than the one coming down, and it is installed by our own team, normally in a day for a like-for-like swap. Our guide on repair or replace explains how we decide and the main replacement page covers the changeover.
Lancefield households on LPG
If the heater is due as well as the cooler, and particularly if it runs on bottled gas, the Lancefield VEU gas to electric page explains a ducted reverse cycle conversion that heats and cools through its own ducts and settles both questions in one job.
Wind and dust off the farmland
Lancefield and Romsey sit in open country, and a cooler on a roof here takes more dust and wind-blown grit than one in a sheltered town. Dust settles into the pad frames and tank, scales the water distributor and leaves the pads passing warm air. The tank clean and the check of water coverage across every pad are the parts of a Lancefield service that matter most.
Cold, frosty winters
Winters here are cold and the frosts are hard. Floats, seals and water lines perish, and any water left in the tank over winter does the cabinet no good. Every Lancefield service checks that the dump valve is actually emptying the unit between uses, because a cooler that sits full through the frosts is the one that fails in November.
Period homes on the wide streets
Lancefield's period homes have high ceilings and more air volume than a modern home of the same floor area. A cooler that never quite keeps up on one of these houses is often undersized rather than faulty. We say so rather than keep sending a technician, and a replacement is sized on the air volume of the house.
LPG households
Many Lancefield and Romsey homes run their heating on LPG. That does not change the cooler service, but when the heater is due at the same time as the cooler it changes the conversation, because a ducted reverse cycle conversion heats and cools through its own ducts and takes the gas bottle out of the picture. We explain both paths at the site visit.

What happens next
Evaporative cooling in Lancefield and Romsey: your questions
What does a Lancefield evaporative cooling service include?
Tank drained and cleaned, pads inspected and cleaned or quoted for replacement, pump and float and dump valves tested, water distribution across every pad checked, fan and motor tested under load, controller and electrical connections checked, and a full run in every mode with the airflow checked at the outlets. Anything that will need attention goes in a written note. The website booking price on the main evaporative service page applies when you book online.
Do you cover Romsey and the farm properties?
Yes. Lancefield, Romsey and the rural properties around them are all covered at the same price. Tell us if the cooler is on a shed or an outbuilding rather than the house so the technician brings the right access equipment.
My cooler blows dust into the house when it starts.
That is a tank and pad problem, not a fault in the unit: dust that has settled over winter is picked up by the airflow until the pads are wet and the tank is clean. The service clears it. If it keeps happening in summer, the pads are due for replacement.
Is it worth repairing an old cooler on a farmhouse?
For a pump, pad set or motor on a sound cabinet, yes. For a brittle cabinet, a leaking tank or a control board nobody supports, no, and we tell you which before you commit. A changeover is quoted with a new cooler sized for the house and installed by our own team.
Can you service the LPG heater in the same visit?
Yes. Many Lancefield households book the heater service and carbon monoxide check with the cooler clean in the one visit.
