More than an inspection

A proper evaporative service, not just a quick check

A lot of "services" are a look, a hose over the pads and a tick on a form. Ours is a physical clean of the cooler followed by the checks that decide whether it will actually cool your house in January.

A deep foaming clean, not a hose-down

Most services stop at spraying the pads. We apply a foaming cleaning solution to the pads and the relevant internal areas of the cooler, work it through, and rinse it out. That is what lifts the dirt and debris that a quick rinse leaves behind.

The water system is checked, not glanced at

Pump, float valve, drain valve, solenoid, water lines and bleed rate. These are the parts that fail in January, and they are checked and adjusted while the unit is open.

Airflow and operation are tested

Fan modes and speeds, accessible ducting, airflow at the outlets and water distribution across every pad, finished with a full function test so the cooler leaves our hands running the way it should.

Filtrex treatment included

A Filtrex cleaning treatment is applied as part of the service process once the pads and tank are clean.

Plain answers

Why an evaporative cooler needs a proper service

Dirt and debris build up over a year

A cooler sits on the roof through autumn and winter collecting dust, leaves and grit in the pads, the tank and the frame. That build-up blocks airflow and stops the pads wetting evenly, which is why a cooler that ran well last summer can feel weak this year.

Pads have a working life

Cooling pads wear, clog with minerals and go hard. We check their condition properly and tell you honestly whether they will do another summer or whether a new set is the better money.

The water system is where most faults start

Pumps that stop lifting water, float valves that stick, drain valves that leak and bleed rates that were never set. Each one shows up as a cooler that runs but does not cool, or a roof that stays wet.

Airflow is the whole point

Fan speeds, ducting condition and outlet airflow decide how much cool air reaches the rooms. We test it rather than assume it.

Smells at start-up

A musty smell on the first hot day is usually stale water and a build-up on the pads after months of sitting. A proper clean of the tank and pads deals with the cause rather than masking it.

Ready before the heat, not during it

The first hot week is when every cooler in the district gets switched on and the breakdown calls start. A spring service picks up the obvious problems while there is still time to fix them without a wait.

Local knowledge

Evaporative cooling in Riddells Creek

Riddells Creek gets warm, dry summers, which is the weather evaporative cooling is built for, and a well maintained cooler will cool a whole house here for a fraction of the running cost of refrigerated air. The word that matters is maintained. A cooler is a wet appliance that lives on a roof: between seasons the water goes stale, minerals set on the pads, leaves and dust settle in the tank and the rubber parts perish in the frosts. A spring service puts all of that right, and because the town is a short run from Sunbury it is one of the easiest bookings we take. Our technicians are our own employees, factory trained on Brivis and experienced with every major brand.

What we do on the roof

The service follows the same checklist on every cooler: tank cleaned, pads inspected and cleaned or quoted, pump tested under load, float and dump valves checked so the unit fills and empties properly, water distribution checked across every pad, fan and motor tested, controller checked, full run in every mode with the airflow measured at the outlets. On the acreage homes we also look at the ducts, because a long duct run with a crushed section will make a healthy cooler look faulty. The price is agreed before we start and parts are quoted before they are fitted. The website booking price on the main evaporative service page applies when you book through the site.

Repairs

If the cooler has stopped, or runs without cooling, tell us the symptom and the technician comes with the likely parts. The Riddells Creek repairs we see most are pumps that have stopped lifting water, floats and dump valves that stick after winter, controllers that will not respond and overflows from leaf-blocked tanks under the town’s trees. Water through a ceiling is urgent; turn the cooler’s water supply off if you can reach it and call. Our guide on a cooler that runs but does not cool covers the checks you can make first.

Replacement

We fix coolers that are worth fixing and say so when they are not. Brittle cabinets, leaking tanks and obsolete control boards mean a changeover is the better money, and a replacement is sized for the house rather than matched to the old unit. Our guide on repair or replace explains how we decide, the Sunbury changeover page describes a changeover in a home much like most Riddells Creek homes, and the main replacement page covers the detail.

Heater due as well?

If the gas ducted heater is the same age as the cooler, the VEU gas to electric conversion is worth understanding before either is replaced, particularly for households on LPG. The Riddells Creek area page covers the options in this town.

Between the plains and the Ranges

Riddells Creek sits between Sunbury and the higher Ranges towns, warmer in summer than Macedon and colder in winter than Sunbury. Coolers here do a proper summer's work, so pads, pumps and water systems need a real clean every spring, and they also sit through frosty winters that perish floats and seals. A service catches both.

Acreage coolers and long duct runs

The acreage properties around Riddells Creek often have larger homes with longer duct runs and coolers positioned further from the outlets. When one of those cools the near rooms and not the far ones, the problem is often airflow and duct condition rather than the unit, and we check the ducts in the roof rather than replace parts on guesswork.

Established trees around the town centre

The older streets near the town centre and the creek have established trees over many roofs, and a cooler under a tree collects leaves and bark in the pad frames and tank. Clearing those and cleaning the water distributor properly is part of every Riddells Creek service.

Mains gas and LPG households

Riddells Creek is a mix of mains gas and LPG depending on the street, which does not change the cooler service but does change the conversation when the heater is due as well. Households on bottled gas are often the ones asking whether a reverse cycle conversion should replace both systems, and we explain that alongside the cooler.

Close to base. Riddells Creek is on the road between Sunbury and Gisborne, so a service is easy to fit around your day and a heatwave breakdown is reached quickly.

Evaporative cooling in Riddells Creek: your questions

What does a Riddells Creek evaporative cooling service include?

Tank drained and cleaned, pads inspected and cleaned or quoted for replacement, pump and float and dump valves tested, water distribution across every pad checked, fan and motor tested under load, controller and electrical connections checked, and a full run in every mode with the airflow checked at the outlets. Anything that will need attention goes in a written note. Booking online brings the website booking price shown above.

The far rooms of my house never get cool. Is the cooler too small?

On the larger Riddells Creek homes it is more often a duct problem than a sizing problem: crushed or disconnected runs, insulation that has broken down or an outlet that has been closed off. We check the ductwork in the roof before recommending anything. If the unit genuinely is undersized we say so rather than keep servicing it.

Do you carry parts?

Yes. Pumps, floats, dump valves and pad sets for the common Brivis, Braemar and Bonaire models are carried, so most Riddells Creek repairs are finished on the first visit. Anything that has to be ordered is priced before you commit.

Can you replace my cooler rather than repair it?

Yes. When a cabinet has gone brittle, the tank leaks or the control board is obsolete, we quote a changeover with a new cooler sized for the house, installed by our own team, usually in a day for a like-for-like swap. New Brivis coolers are bought direct from the manufacturer.

Can you service the gas ducted heater at the same time?

Yes, and many Riddells Creek households book the heater service and carbon monoxide check with the cooler clean in the one visit.
