Installing a multi-head system as one system
A multi-head installation is one refrigeration system feeding several rooms, and it is only as good as its design and its pipework. We install two, three and four head systems, and larger configurations where the manufacturer’s range supports them, across the Macedon Ranges, from Sunbury and Gisborne through Macedon and Woodend to Kyneton, Romsey and Lancefield, with our own licensed technicians.
The site visit
We look at every room that is getting a head: size, ceiling height, glazing, orientation and use. We agree the indoor unit type and position in each room, plan the refrigerant pipe route from each head to the outdoor unit within the manufacturer’s length and height limits, plan where the condensate from each head will drain, and agree the outdoor unit position for airflow, service access and noise. That visit is what turns a list of rooms into a system that works.
Sizing
Each indoor unit is sized for its room. The outdoor unit is sized for the rooms that will run together on the days that matter, with enough capacity that the living areas on a 38 degree afternoon and the bedrooms on a frosty night are covered, and without oversizing so much that the system cycles and costs more than it should. If you want to add a room in a few years, we size for it now.
On the day
Indoor units mounted and levelled. Refrigerant pipework run to each head, insulated, and routed tidily, through wall cavities and roof spaces where possible and in painted covers where not. Pipework pressure tested and evacuated properly before charging; this step is where rushed multi-head installations go wrong and where we do not rush. Electrical circuit and isolator installed. Condensate drained by gravity wherever the design allows. Every head commissioned and tested in heating and cooling, controls set up and explained.

We have substantial hands-on experience installing Mitsubishi Electric multi-split systems and are factory-trained dealers for Rinnai, whose multi-split range includes systems that serve up to six rooms. We recommend one system for your rooms and explain why.
Is multi-head the right choice?
For two to four rooms in a home without roof space, usually yes. For a whole house with roof space, a ducted system is often better. For one room, a single split is simpler. Our comparison page sets out the trade-offs, and the site visit settles it for your home.
What your written quote includes
- A site visit to assess each room, agree indoor unit types and positions, plan pipe routes and drainage, and agree the outdoor unit position
- A design that sizes each indoor unit for its room and the outdoor unit for the rooms that will run together
- The recommended system with the reasoning, and an alternative where one genuinely suits
- Removal and disposal of any units being replaced
- Indoor units, outdoor unit, mounting, refrigerant pipework to each head, electrical circuit and isolator, condensate drainage and covers
- Pressure test, evacuation and commissioning to the manufacturer's specification, with every head tested
- A walk-through of the controls and the 9 year labour and workmanship warranty in writing

Design
Sized for the rooms it serves, together and separately
The outdoor unit is sized for the rooms that will run at the same time, and each indoor unit for its own room. Pipe runs, the outdoor unit position and the condensate drains from every head are planned before installation day, which is what keeps a multi-head quiet, efficient and tidy.

Sized for your home, not a rule of thumb
We size heating and cooling from the home: floor area, ceiling heights, insulation, glazing, orientation and how the rooms are used. An oversized unit short-cycles and an undersized one runs flat out on the coldest and hottest days, which is exactly when you need it.
Outdoor unit positioned properly
Clearances for airflow and service access, a level base or bracket, noise considered for you and the neighbours, and a position that keeps pipe runs sensible. It is the difference between a unit that lasts and one that struggles every summer.
Refrigerant work done by licensed technicians
Pipework is brazed, pressure-tested and evacuated before charging, and the charge is set to the manufacturer's specification. Our technicians hold the ARCtick refrigerant handling licence the law requires.
Electrical supply done by licensed electricians
Reverse cycle systems need the right circuit, cable size and isolator at the outdoor unit, installed to AS/NZS 3000 by a licensed electrician with a certificate of electrical safety. We tell you up front if the switchboard needs work, rather than discovering it on installation day.

We also install, service and repair all major heating and cooling brands, including Mitsubishi Electric.

It applies to the installation work our own team does. Equipment is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, repairs and servicing carry their own workmanship warranty, and pre-existing or reused components are not covered by the nine years.
Questions we get asked
How do you size a multi-head system?
Each indoor unit is sized for its room's heat load. The outdoor unit is then sized for the rooms that will realistically run at the same time, which is usually less than the sum of every head but has to cover the living areas on a hot afternoon and the bedrooms on a cold night. We work this out at the site visit.
Can I add a head later?
Sometimes, if the outdoor unit was chosen with spare capacity and a spare port. If you think you will add a room later, tell us at the design stage and we will size for it.
Do all the rooms have to be the same type of indoor unit?
No. Wall-mounted units in bedrooms, a bulkhead or floor console in a living area; the brand's multi-split range allows a mix, and we choose per room.
How long does the installation take?
A two or three head system is usually a day. Larger systems and homes with long pipe runs can take longer, and we tell you before the day.
What does the warranty cover?
Our 9 year labour and workmanship warranty covers the installation work: mounting, pipework, electrical, drainage and commissioning. The equipment is covered by the manufacturer's product warranty, which we manage for you.
